Program overview:
The Start-up Visa program is an immigration channel Canada opened in 2014 to bring new growth to the Canadian economy and promote innovation in areas such as the internet and high technology. It offers founding teams a fast, low-cost path to permanent residence, attracting talent from all industries to start businesses and live in Canada. Each startup team is granted 5 immigration spots (for the whole family).
Program process:
Find or define a suitable startup project
Build a team
Obtain funding or enter an incubator
Obtain a support letter
Submit the application to immigration
Apply for a work permit (optional)
Receive permanent residence
Conditions the company must meet:
The company must be registered in Canada
Meet one of the following three conditions:
Receive investment from a Canadian government-designated VC of no less than CAD 200,000
Receive investment from a Canadian government-designated angel investor group of no less than CAD 75,000
Enter a Canadian government-designated incubator, with no funding requirement
Conditions each applicant must meet:
Each applicant must hold no less than 10% of the voting rights in the company
All applicants together must hold no less than 50% of the voting rights
An IELTS score of no less than 5
Proof of a certain amount of savings (between CAD 13,310 and CAD 35,224, depending on the number of family members)
